Role Title: Azure SQL Database Engineer, Dublin
Location/Office Policy: Central Park, Leopardstown, Dublin, Office Centric
- Can you provide deep Azure SQL Database technical expertise? This includes:
- Taking ownership of complex projects and problem resolution for our Azure SQL Database estate.
- Performance analysis and tuning and supporting Application Development through-out project change lifecycle.
What is the Role:
This Azure SQL DBA role sits within the Database team in the Technology Platforms and Architecture function
The role involves providing technical leadership for Azure SQL Database and Azure SQL Managed Instance services supporting critical business applications.
The purpose of the role is to design, operate and continuously improve secure, highly available and high‑performing Azure SQL platforms.
Key accountabilities:
- Lead the end‑to‑end design and deployment of Azure SQL Database and Azure SQL Managed Instance environments, taking full ownership of solution architecture and delivery.
- Collaborate with Engineering teams to define and deliver scalable, resilient and secure Azure SQL solutions
- Drive the design and implementation of monitoring and observability capabilities (e.g. Azure Monitor, Log Analytics), including performance management and health‑check procedures.
- Design and govern automated backup (PITR/LTR) and Disaster Recovery strategies to meet resilience and recovery objectives.
- Take accountability for database security posture, including access controls (RBAC/PIM), security assessments and alignment with Technical Assurance security standards and controls.
- Lead performance optimisation across Azure SQL platforms by driving query, index and workload tuning, and resolving complex performance bottlenecks.
- Drive automation across database delivery and operations, including scripting and controlled change execution using automation tools (e.g. Liquibase).
- Provide technical leadership during database incidents and service requests, ensuring timely resolution, effective escalation and strong stakeholder engagement.
- Oversee and actively participate in the 24x7 support model, acting as an escalation point and accountable owner for incident response and service stability.
What you Will Bring:
- Bachelor's Degree or higher in Computer Science or a related field.
- 8 to 10 years’ experience in Azure SQL Database (DB, MI) Database Engineering and MS SQL Server
- Expert level of Azure SQL Performance Tuning capability
- Knowledge of DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines for Database deployments
- Excellent collaboration skills and a willingness to train/coach other team members
The following certifications are desirable though not essential:
- Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate.
- Bachelor's Degree or higher in Computer Science or a related field.

Key Capabilities
