Role Title: Senior Risk Assurance Specialist

Location:  AIB Group, 10 Molesworth Street, Dublin 2, D02 R126 / Central Park, Block H, Leopardstown, Dublin 18

Hybrid Working – 3 days per week in the office – Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday

What is the Role

The Risk Function in AIB is an independent, second line of defence function that monitors, controls and supports risk-taking activities across AIB.  The purpose of the Risk Function is to provide advice and guidance in relation to risk while providing independent oversight and reporting on AIB’s risk profile.

Risk Assurance and Validation (RAV) is a Second Line of Defence Assurance function led by the Head of RAV within Risk and provides independent assurance and model validation to protect the Bank, safeguard its customers and build a sustainable future. The team promotes continuous improvement in risk management and a positive risk culture, with opportunities to engage senior stakeholders and gain broad experience across the Bank. Financial Risk Assurance is a dynamic team within RAV, providing independent assurance over material risks, frameworks, policies and controls across the Group, including subsidiaries. The team supports senior management and Board reporting by delivering evidence-based reviews, constructive challenge and practical insights that help strengthen control environments and mitigate material risks, including financial risk, capital adequacy risk, funding and liquidity risk, and market and equity risk.

 

We're looking for someone who can

  • Support the planning and delivery of financial risk assurance reviews, including scoping, test strategy, walkthroughs, evidence assessment and control testing.
  • Engage confidently with stakeholders across Financial Risk, Finance, Treasury, business areas, Group Internal Audit and assurance functions to understand processes, challenge evidence and agree factual outcomes.
  • Perform detailed, evidence-based testing of processes, controls, data and reporting to identify control weaknesses, root causes and practical improvement opportunities.
  • Develop clear, factual and well-supported assurance findings, including issue impact, risk implications and agreed management actions.
  • Support the preparation of high-quality review reports for senior management, ensuring conclusions are evidence-based, balanced and clearly articulated.
  • Contribute to committee and Board reporting by highlighting key themes, issues, actions and insights from assurance activity.

 

What you will bring

  • Minimum of 4 years’ experience in risk management, assurance, compliance or audit within a banking / financial services or professional services working environment. A relevant professional qualification, such as ACA, ACCA or equivalent, would be an advantage.
  • Strong understanding of risk management, governance and control frameworks, with experience or knowledge of financial risk areas such as funding and liquidity risk, capital adequacy risk, market risk, regulatory reporting or recovery planning.
  • Ability to assess process design, control effectiveness, evidence quality and data/reporting outputs, and to translate observations into clear, well-supported assurance findings.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to interpret financial, risk and management information and draw out key messages, themes and insights.
  • Ability to engage effectively with stakeholders, challenge constructively, exercise professional scepticism and deliver high-quality outputs within agreed timelines
  • Experience in data analysis, reperformance testing or use of tools such as Excel, SQL, Python, Power BI, Tableau or similar would be an advantage; knowledge of BCBS 239 / Risk Data Aggregation and Risk Reporting (RDARR), data governance or data quality controls would also be beneficial.
