Summary of role:
Group Internal Audit (GIA) is not your typical audit function. We’re on an ambitious journey to create the best function we can for AIB and our people. GIA is now seeking applications from ambitious professionals who are keen to pursue an opportunity as an audit manager specialising in model risk with a focus on quantitative modelling elements.
Key Accountabilities
- Lead comprehensive audits of risk models, with a particular focus on Internal Ratings-Based (IRB) models, including regulatory capital, probability of default (PD), loss given default (LGD), exposure at default (EAD), credit risk rating systems, stress testing, IFRS9 and other material credit and financial risk models.
- Maintain and continually develop a deep understanding of IRB regulatory requirements, model risk management frameworks, and evolving supervisory expectations, including ECB, EBA, PRA and CRR requirements applicable to model design, validation, governance, monitoring, and use.
- Provide robust challenge and independent assurance over the effectiveness of model governance, model development, validation activities, performance monitoring, and regulatory compliance across the model lifecycle.
- Engage with, and influence, senior stakeholders on internal audit findings, remediation actions, and opportunities to strengthen the control environment and model risk management framework.
- Build and maintain a strong internal and external network, leveraging industry developments, regulatory insights, and peer practices to drive continuous improvement in audit methodology and model risk coverage.
- Represent GIA at internal governance forums, model oversight committees, and external engagements, including regulatory meetings and inspections, presenting audit conclusions and insights as required.
- Produce and oversee clear, comprehensive and evidence-based audit documentation that supports findings and recommendations.
- Lead, coach, and develop a team of quantitative risk auditors and analysts with varying levels of experience, fostering technical excellence in model risk auditing.
- Contribute to the development of the Internal Audit strategy and annual audit plan, ensuring appropriate coverage of key model risk areas, including IRB models, model change activity, regulatory developments, and emerging risks.
What you Will Bring
Please note that the following criteria form the basis of your answers on the application form.
- Relevant third level or postgraduate qualification in an analytical discipline (e.g. mathematics, statistics, computer science);
- 5 years+ experience in model development and/or model validation, particularly in relation to credit/financial risk models including those subject to regulatory requirements e.g. Capital Requirement Regulations (CRR);
- Experience with SAS or SQL programming;
- Excellent oral and written communication skills;
- Experience in leading a team of specialists including a focus on growth and improvement combined with a desire to share and contribute to the development of junior auditors;
- An understanding of regulations relating to internal models e.g. EBA Guidelines on Model Risk, CRR; and
- A strong track record of interaction and collaboration with an array of stakeholders, preferably including regulatory engagement, at all levels with track record of delivery against multiple competing objectives.
