About the Head of Financial Risk role

The Head of Financial Risk (HoFR) sits in the firm's second line of defence, reporting directly to the Chief Risk Officer, and is the primary owner of the firm's Financial Risk Management Frameworks encompassing Market Risk, Credit Risk Liquidity & Funding Risk and Capital Adequacy Risk.

 

The HoFR is a key member of the Goodbody Risk Function's Senior Management Team (SMT) and manages a second line of defence financial risk team that is responsible for promoting, overseeing and challenging the active management of the financial risks, including those generated by the firm's Equity and Debt Capital Markets trading activities.

 

Head of Financial Risk Accountabilities include: 

  • Owning, managing and maintaining all financial risk policies and frameworks, including appropriate limit definitions, calibrations and KRIs.
  • Challenging and contributing to the formulation of the firm's Material Risk Assessment and Risk Appetite for all aspects of Financial Risk.
  • Ongoing monitoring and assessing of the firm’s Financial Risk profile.
  • Delivering clear, consistent reporting on the firm's financial risk profile and emerging risks to all relevant governance fora, including but not limited to the Risk Senior Management Team, Executive Committee, Executive Risk & Compliance Committee and Board Risk & Compliance Committee.
  • Challenging and engaging business units to promote clear risk ownership with robust risk management, measurement and data accuracy for all financial risk categories.
  • Maintaining ongoing, open communication, through formal and informal governance fora, with key management teams across the firm to promote sound risk management and to provide independent challenge and risk advisory services as required.
  • Challenging the firm's trading strategies including position hedging and risk management techniques.
  • Providing financial risk reviews of all relevant strategic decision-papers that are presented by the business to the firm's Board and Executive Committee.
  • Challenging and steering the firm's Capital and Liquidity planning processes through independent review of and challenge to risk measurement techniques, scenario analysis and stress testing approaches.
  • Assisting, advising and overseeing the firm's delivery of its Financial Disclosure obligations under the Investment Firm's Directive (IFR).
  • Maintaining ongoing relationships and engagement with all relevant risk and finance peers across the firm's parent, AIB Group p.l.c.
  • Delivering all financial risk reporting obligations to AIB Group p.l.c.
  • Attending, reporting to and participating in AIB Governance fora as necessary to maintain appropriate alignment of approach to Second Line of Defence financial risk management structures and practices.
  • Growing and managing a team of risk managers responsible for individual areas of Financial Risk and their associated frameworks.
  • Identifying and implementing enhancements to governance infrastructure

 

Qualifications and Experience 

  • The ideal candidate should have significant experience in a 2nd line financial risk role with expertise in capital markets trading, quantitative risk measurement techniques and risk management processes, including the development, maintenance and embedding of risk frameworks and policies.
  • Experience in ICAAP/ICARAP, financial risk modelling, Fidessa and Bloomberg and stress testing is an advantage.
  • Third level education is not essential but may prove useful when selecting the successful candidate.
  • 10 years professional experience in Financial Services. Experience in delivering key regulatory prudential documents including ICARAP.

  • The role requires a driven, experienced individual with a deep understanding of capital markets, financial risk management, capital planning and liquidity management processes.
  • Stakeholder management and people management skills are critical.
  • Excellent organisational skills and the ability to prioritise workload, multitask and work to tight deadlines.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills are essential with an ability to clearly and concisely convey complex messages.
  • The ability to form good working relationships across multi-disciplinary teams.
