What is the Role:
An exciting and challenging opportunity to join AIB Group’s Corporate Development team as an Associate. This is a great opportunity for someone who wants to develop and enhance their skillset.
The Corporate Development Team sits within the Corporate Affairs division in AIB and is responsible for completing M&A transactions (acquisitions, joint ventures, divestments) on behalf of the Group in line with the Group’s strategy. A summary of the team’s responsibilities is outlined below:
- Identifying potential opportunities through engagement with market counterparts and assessment of opportunities for alignment with the Group’s strategy.
- Co-ordinating a multi-functional due diligence process on Transactions.
- Stakeholder management and communication, working closely with several internal and external parties to the transaction.
- Negotiation of Transaction price and key Transaction contracts.
- Communication and engagement with relevant decision authorities to obtain Transaction approvals (i.e., Executive Leadership Team and / or Board).
- Ensuring relevant regulatory approvals are in place to complete Transactions.
Recent transactions completed by the Corporate Development Team include:
- Divestment of AIB’s shareholding in AIB Merchant Services
- Acquisition of Goodbody Stockbrokers
- Acquisition of the €4.2bn performing corporate and commercial loan book from Ulster Bank
- Acquisition of the €5.7bn portfolio of performing tracker mortgages from Ulster Bank
- Joint Venture with Canada Life / Great West Life Co
Key accountabilities;
- Support the team in:
- Critically assessing and executing strategic investment opportunities which are aligned with AIB’s group strategy.
- Assessing risk / return probabilities of a Transaction.
- Following a robust cross functional due diligence process in executing a Transaction.
- Co-ordinating / preparing investment approval papers, briefing papers, presentations, etc. as required for transactions.
- Communicating the Team’s strategy, priorities and decision-making process.
- Build trust and co-operation by two-way engagement with internal and external stakeholders who will assist with transaction processes.
- Assist with identifying pipeline of opportunities.
- Contribute to the wider team operations including engaging with various internal stakeholders such as 1LOD governance and Risk.
What you Will Bring:
- Minimum 3 years of relevant technical experience in a corporate finance / transaction services role, preferably within Big 4 / private equity / advisory / investment banking
- Strong presentation and report writing skills.
- Strong relationship and cross functional stakeholder management skills.
- Positive mind set, self-starter and proactive attitude with high levels of initiative and excellent attention to detail.
- High level of commercial awareness with proven track record of delivering against challenging objectives and timelines.
