About the Role:


Our teams work to provide insightful financial information to inform decision making across AIB, meet our regulatory commitments, manage AIB’s capital, liquidity and cost effectively and protect the assets of our business for the long term. By doing that we work to contribute to an exceptional customer experience.


In Group Tax, our key objective is to support the business through the delivery of a comprehensive tax advisory service. This is achieved by ensuring that all statutory tax obligations are met and that the Group’s tax position is efficiently managed in accordance with the Group Tax Policy.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Provide tax advice to the business on Irish and UK tax treatment of remuneration, expenses and benefits and on ad hoc requests such as staff assignments, cross-border working and voluntary severance. 
  • Advise and support business on the employment tax aspects of projects / transactions including due diligence, guidance on legal documentation including tax warranties and indemnities, and provision of employment tax support for post-acquisition integrations.
  • Collaborate with business:
  • to help it achieve its objectives while ensuring optimal tax outcomes;
  • to challenge the design and effectiveness of controls related to employment tax risks and work with the business to ensure enhancements are implemented effectively.
  • Analyse and interpret tax laws, regulations, case law and guidance to support advice to business and interactions with tax authorities.
  • Analyse new legislative proposals and changes to Revenue guidance. Identify implications for business and work with them to implement the relevant changes to processes / systems to ensure compliance with the new tax requirements.
  • Communicate effectively with non-tax personnel on technical tax topics to ensure that tax compliance requirements and tax risks are understood and necessary actions are implemented.
  • Negotiate with tax authorities on employment tax matters for the Group. Manage Revenue interventions relating to employment taxes.
  • Collaborate with peers in other organisations and through industry bodies to understand the wider environment and to influence authorities in adoption, design and implementation of changes to tax law and practice.



What will you bring:

  • Qualified ITI Chartered Tax Advisor
  • Minimum 5 years relevant Irish employment tax experience in practice or industry.
  • Strong knowledge of Irish employment tax issues of relevance to a banking group, together with an appreciation of other Irish taxes.
  • UK employment tax knowledge is beneficial but not required.
  • Experience of building and maintaining relationships with relevant stakeholders.
  • Good communication and influencing skills. Ability to communicate effectively on tax issues to non-tax people.
  • Experience of managing and dealing with diverse workstreams and delivering to specific deadlines.
  • Self-starter who can lead out on tasks with some support from more senior team members.
  • Proficient IT user, particularly Excel.
