What is the Role:

 

The Data Science Solutions & Delivery (DSSD) function, within the Technology & Data division, is tasked with generating value from AIB's data. The team, which consists of Data Scientists and ML Engineers with a diverse range of skills and backgrounds, supports and enables both internal and external stakeholders by working across all business areas that are focused on developing innovative and sustainable AI and Machine Learning products. These products aim to deliver high measurable value for the business while ensuring better and fairer outcomes for our customers, colleagues, and communities. 

This role presents an exciting and challenging opportunity for an experienced data scientist to join a talented team. The successful candidate will be involved in delivering data science initiatives and supporting the strategic development of the function. Real business problems will challenge you, and you will be provided with the necessary tools to create innovative solutions across various aspects of the organization. 

 

Key accountabilities;

 

  • Provide ongoing technical and career development guidance to peers and direct reports.
  • Lead the design and execution of data science projects that align with business goals and deliver measurable value. Develop and deploy predictive models, machine learning algorithms, and statistical analyses to solve complex business challenges.
  • Keep abreast of new trends and technologies
  • Review code and analytical approaches, ensuring best practices in methodology and documentation
  • Ensure reproducibility, scalability, and performance of models in production environments.
  • Champion Data Science across the bank.
  • Manage Stakeholder engagement and expectations
  • Collaborate across teams to ensure progress against milestones is tracked and reported

 

 

 

What you Will Bring ;

 

We’re looking for someone who has: 

 

  • Delivered a comprehensive catalogue of machine learning use cases demonstrating proven value, employing a wide range of machine learning techniques. 
  • Skilled in translating data science concepts into business terminology, effectively highlighting key insights through storytelling, and presenting analyses to key stakeholders. 
  • Demonstrates proficiency in both independent work and collaborative efforts with team members. 
  • Possesses the capability to coach and mentor junior data scientists as well as emerging talents in AIB’s Data & Analytics Graduate programme. 
  • Capable of planning work, setting clear direction for oneself and others, and coordinating their own tasks and team tasks within a fast-paced, multi-disciplinary environment. 
  • Possesses substantial hands-on experience in data mining, statistical analysis, modelling, machine learning, and conducting experiments with large datasets. 
  • Exhibits a strong understanding of and commitment to best practices in coding standards, version control, code reviews, source management, build processes, testing, and operations. 
  • Extensive experience in cloud-based analytics and machine learning environments. 
  • Proven track record in working within an MLOps framework, collaborating closely with ML engineers to deploy, integrate, and scale machine learning models across multiple projects. 
  • Strong market awareness and a future-oriented mindset, consistently expanding knowledge in data science and AI, as well as discovering innovative tools and techniques to address business and organizational challenges.

Please note that the following criteria form the basis of your answers on the application form. 

  • A third-level qualification in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field with three or more years of industry experience as a data science practitioner. 
  • Skilled in translating business requirements into data science initiatives. 
  • Comprehensive understanding of the machine learning delivery lifecycle. 
  • Extensive experience and proficiency in statistics, coding, modelling, and experimentation. 
  • Expertise in Python is necessary, especially with machine learning libraries (such as scikit-learn) and the Pydata stack (Pandas, Numpy, Matplotlib). Experience in PySpark would be strongly beneficial. 
  • Proficiency with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and their ML services is required. Familiarity with Databricks is advantageous. 
  • Extensive knowledge of version control systems, including Git, and CI/CD pipelines. 
  • Proficient in containerization technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes. 
  • Experienced in creating visualizations and dashboards using Power BI, Tableau, or Qlik.
