What is the role

 

In Risk Analytics, we develop and support the deployment of risk models, strategies and decision tools for regulatory capital, internal capital and business decision making. 

 

Risk Analytics is part of the Risk Function, this is an independent, second line of defence function that monitors, controls, and supports risk-taking activities across AIB. The purpose of the Risk Function is to provide advice and guidance in relation to risk while providing independent oversight and reporting on AIB’s risk profile. The Risk Function’s main objective is to ensure AIB has a robust risk management framework and culture in place to ensure risks are taken within the risk appetite set by the Board, in support of AIB’s customer franchise and social responsibility.   

 

This role leads the enterprise-wide oversight of credit risk model performance across AIB, ensuring models remain effective, well governed, and aligned to business and regulatory expectations. The role holder will own the end-to-end monitoring agenda, turn insights into prioritised remediation plans, and communicate clear recommendations to senior governance fora.

 

This role sits within Risk Analytics and reports into the Head of Model Solutions, partnering closely with Model Development, Model Validation, Model Risk, and portfolio teams across ROI and UK.

 

Key Accountabilities

 

  • Lead the end-to-end credit model monitoring for AIB Group, ensuring robust, efficient, and resilient procedures are in place.
  • Establish and promote a professional model risk management culture, communicating recommended actions to resolve, mitigate, and monitor credit models to senior stakeholders and Board level.
  • Drive the integration of newly merged monitoring teams, enhancing processes and expanding responsibilities within a near fixed headcount.
  • Manage the team to deliver effective monitoring processes, maintaining the skills base and ensuring timely, policy-compliant reporting.
  • Own the Scale of Concern (SOC) assessment process, facilitating discussion of model performance, escalating issues, and integrating insights from 1LOD and 2LOD.
  • Conduct and coordinate model investigations to determine root causes of performance issues, providing clear conclusions and subject matter expertise.
  • Engage with Model Owners and governance fora, reviewing validation findings, supporting inventory management, and ensuring adherence to Group policies and standards.
  • Go beyond automated model performance testing, proactively recommending and delivering solutions and recommendations in a highly strategic role.
  • Ensure effective and compliant monitoring at all times, maintaining high standards in a challenging and changing environment.
  • Take ownership of model monitoring standards, procedures and controls and ensure regulatory requirements associated with model monitoring are adhered to
  • Take ownership of any monitoring services provided to subsidiaries ensuring any local governance arrangements are catered for.

 

 

What you will bring

 

  • Extensive experience working with data, analysing and making recommendations and experience with model monitoring.
  • Comprehensive understanding of model lifecycle associated with IRB, IFRS9, credit grading and pillar 2 models
  • Portfolio understanding aligned to the AIB balance sheet including; corporate, retail, institutional and sovereign exposure classes.
  • Experience of monitoring or developing models that span the following types: 12 month probability of default; lifetime probability of default; loss given default; exposure at default; prepayment; probability of stage 2 etc.
  • Proven ability to explain complex material to a non-technical audience and produce technical documentation
  • Successful track record in management and delivery of projects and BAU activity to meet business objectives
  • Experience developing and managing a team of technical specialists
  • High level of computer literacy, including wide-ranging experience using SAS and SQL
  • Extensive experience of building or enhancing highly complex credit model monitoring solutions
  • Extensive experience of credit monitoring for corporate portfolios and providing rating recommendations
