With this in mind we have created a centralised first line financial crime team, this role forms part of the leadership team for the function.
What is the Role:
The Fraud & AML team lead will require strong analytic skills with a mind-set to identify Financial Crime through their investigative work, identifying trends and areas where further investigation and in some instances enhancement to controls are required. They will lead three relatively small sub teams responsible for:
AML Advisory
Will advise the wider Financial Crime team on all AML related activities itself as well as the business as required.
Provision of MI to second line, will be key link to second line on all advisory and MI related queries.
SARS & Production Orders
Screening and investigation of UK Customer activity as well as undertaking first line role for UK on SAR’s and Production orders.
Management of information requests in conjunction with second line specialist team (e.g. Court Orders) from external authorities, e.g. Police & Revenue
Fraud Team
The Fraud team and will proactively lead the banks’ fraud prevention and detection as well as gathering actionable intelligence across both AIB UK and at UK industry level. The role will supports the bank’s ongoing development of a dynamic fraud defence strategy, minimise fraud impact on AIB customers, reducing financial losses. To achieve this, they will monitor potential fraud transactions, investigating where necessary whilst producing relevant Fraud Analytics.

We are looking for an experienced specialist who will bring energy to the team and work collaboratively across all the teams within the function.
Key accountabilities;
- Leads and develops a small team of highly motivated FC investigators with an analytical/detective skill-set for investigations, demonstrating the mind-set to identify Financial Crime threats through investigative work and identifying trends across Fraud & AML, ensuring that all controls are executed as designed and in line with regulatory requirements and the bank’s risk appetite.
- Taking appropriate actions, including raising Suspicious Activity Reports (SAR’s) and reporting to MLRO.
- Uses own technical knowledge to make complex risk-based decisions in relation to the management of Fraud & AML activity. Where required, escalates decisions via appropriate channels to the relevant Governance Fora for approval.
- Uses professional and independent judgement to develop recommendations for process/policy enhancements to senior business leaders to resolve root causes of FC Operations risk issues.
- As a member of the FC management team, contributes to the strategic objectives and plans, leadership and performance of the Financial Crime function, with a particular focus on the direction and strategy of the Financial Crime AML & Fraud function.
- Continually measuring, monitoring and improving overall performance of the Financial Crime team and giving regular feedback to team leads and facilitate internal succession through effective performance management and development of people to achieve results.
- Champions a Customer First culture in support of our Purpose, strategic ambition and Values, by ensuring processes and procedures consistently promote good outcomes for all our customers.
- Undertakes Industry research and engagement with a horizon lens, feeding relevant information back to MLRO in second line.
What you Will Bring ;
- At least 5 years’ experience within a Fraud and AML role.
- Knowledge of the Suspicious Activity Reporting obligations, the economic sanctions regime and the financial crime environment to identify FC risks.
- Strong people/team management experience with an ability to lead, coach and inspire a small high performing and motivated team.
- Demonstrable evidence of problem solving and decision making skills.
- A strong understanding of current and emerging Financial Crime risks and practical experience of delivering and managing an effective Financial Crime control environment.
- Ability to operate with a high level of autonomy while adapting to changing priorities and varied decision making scenarios.
- Experience communicating complex information accurately, clearly, and quickly to all levels of management, regulators, auditors, and third parties.
