What you will be doing?

The Capital Management team is a dynamic and fast paced team at the heart of capital forecasting and strategic decision making for the Group, providing key insights to support the delivery of AIB’s Capital planning and management and development of enhanced risk-adjusted performance metrics.


A vacancy now exists within the team for the role of a Capital Management Specialist. This is a great opportunity to gain experience on a team that brings together financial expertise (balance sheet management) and data analytics as we utilise statistical techniques and programming to effectively forecast, plan and report on some of the banks key measurements. The role can be tailored to a certain extent to match skillset, experience and interest and is being offered on a permanent basis.

Within Group ALM our aim is to be a key enabler of AIB’s sustainable growth by ensuring our customers and other stakeholders have confidence in us as an institution, with a solid Capital and Liquidity foundation and a reliable product offering, which forms the basis of long term relationships. We seek to achieve this by:-

  • Stress testing: modelling the banks’ balance sheet and capital position under various scenarios, providing analysis to the highest level of management in the bank on the strength of the groups capital and advising on methods of enhancing the banks position
  • Developing and enhancing the Bank’s stress testing capabilities.  Supporting the strategy with management processes e.g. capital allocation
  • Provision of information and analysis enabling the Bank to conclude it is adequately capitalised and Funded
  • Engaging with key stakeholders across the bank to analyse the risk adjusted return on capital and contribute to the sound and fair pricing of the banks product offering
  • Contributing to sound and fair pricing of assets and liabilities through funds transfer pricing and risk adjusted return on capital (RaRoC)
  • Provision of quantitative modelling and management of the technical architecture to support the above activities.


Key accountabilities include:

  • Development of enhanced risk-adjusted performance (RAROC) analysis, improving processes working on all levels from business engagement to SQL programming  
  • Support AIB’s capital planning and stress testing, ensuring that accurate and timely forecasts are prepared to facilitate strategic planning
  • Support preparation of the Group ICAAP Report, assessing AIB’s material risks, future capital position, and any requirement for mitigating capital actions
  • Preparation of the monthly Capital Management pack for review by the Capital Management Manager
  • Support initiatives to continually improve processes and enhance efficiency, both within the CMU and beyond.

  1. A financial or quantitative analytical discipline bachelor’s degree e.g. accounting, business, economics, actuarial, mathematics, applied mathematics, physics, statistics, engineering, econometrics
  2. Knowledge and understanding of financial models and an appreciation of mathematical concepts
  3. Ability to articulate complex concepts/results in simple language. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  4. Information and Data Analysis, programming, SQL
  5. Experience of building and maintaining relationships with internal stakeholders and business partners.
