About the Role:
- Corporate Development is AIB Group’s function for completing M&A transactions in line with the Group’s strategy.
- The Team is responsible for originating, assessing, evaluating, and negotiating M&A transactions.
- The Team co-ordinates the due diligence process of the target assets/business and presents the findings for approval to the relevant decision authority (i.e., Executive Committee and / or Board).
- Recently, the Team has led key strategic transactions for the Group including:
- Acquisition of Goodbody Stockbrokers.
- Acquisition of the performing corporate and commercial loan book from Ulster Bank.
- Acquisition of a large portfolio of performing tracker mortgages from Ulster Bank; and
- Joint Venture with Canada Life / Great West Life Co to provide life, pension and investment solutions.
- The Team works closely with a number of internal stakeholders including Group Legal and Group Risk to ensure legal, regulatory and compliance policies are adhered to.
- In addition, constructive engagement is required with numerous other internal departments (depending on the nature of the transaction) including Accounting, Tax, Treasury, Capital Markets, Retail, Investor Relations, and Communications.
- Transactions / mandates can be both organic and inorganic.
- A successful candidate will assist the Team in assessing new opportunities (undertaking financial analysis, drafting presentations) and managing the day-to-day execution of transactions. They will also assist in manging the co-ordination of the due diligence.
We are looking for someone who can:
- Play an active role within a multi-disciplinary internal project team in the assessment of M&A opportunities.
- Support the Team to follow robust due diligence processes to assess risk / return probabilities for new acquisitions, investments, and joint ventures.
- Co-ordinate / prepare investment approval papers, briefing memos, presentations etc. as required for transactions.
- Build trust and co-operation by two-way engagement with internal and external stakeholders who will assist with due diligence and legal agreements required to complete transactions.
- Assist with identifying pipeline of opportunities.
- Support the team in communication of the Team’s strategy, priorities, and decision-making process.
What you will bring:
- 2+ Years direct experience in M&A / Corporate Development
- 3rd level qualification in finance, business, economics, or a related field. MBA, CFA, ACA or ACCA designation is preferable.
- Experience within Mergers and Acquisitions with a familiarity of the end-to-end process is preferred.
- Strong reporting and presentation skills to technical and non-technical audiences
- High level of commercial awareness with proven track record of delivering against challenging objectives and timelines
