Summary of role:

The Risk Function is an independent, second line of defence function that monitors, controls and supports risk-taking activities across AIB.  The purpose of the Risk Function is to provide advice and guidance in relation to risk while providing independent oversight and reporting on AIB’s risk profile.

 

The Risk Function’s main objective is to ensure AIB has a robust risk management framework and culture in place to ensure risks are taken within the risk appetite set by the Board, in support of AIB’s customer franchise and social responsibility.  

The role is positioned within the Enterprise Risk Management team where we perform Risk management for Business Model Risk and Capital Adequacy Risk, and are responsible for the Risk Management Framework, including Risk Appetite.

 

We’re looking for someone who:

  • Assist the Head of Environmental and Social Risk, with Climate Risk/ESG management initiatives and drive the integration or Environmental and Social Risk into AIB’s existing risk management processes.
  • Evaluate local regulatory requirements and identify potential gaps relative to AIB’s frameworks and policies.
  • Work with stakeholders to develop and implement necessary enhancements to the Credit Risk Management Framework where appropriate.
  • Collaborate with Chief Sustainability Office in responding to local regulatory requirements – assist in drafting responses to regulatory surveys or enquiries in relation to Climate Risk/ESG management practices
  • Keep track on regulatory developments and ensure that Climate Risk/ESG management framework/practices meet regulatory expectations
  • Collaborate with other functions to ensure compliance with emerging Climate Risk/ESG regulations
  • Coordinate Risk input required for external disclosures and develop specific approaches for the Group’s subsidiaries as necessary
  • Contribute Risk input to broader firm wide Environmental and Sustainability strategic commitments (e.g., Net Zero, Sustainable Progress Strategy, TCFD)
  • Develop training material for Senior Management, Board, forums, and global regulatory engagement
  • Provide subject matter expertise on Climate Risk/ESG management issues, and contribute to capital discussions both internally and externally, including climate stress tests
  • Stay abreast of emerging Climate Risk/ESG trends in Ireland, UK, EU and globally
  • Contribute to the broader Climate Risk team in building out best-in-class second line climate risk management capabilities

You will need to show us that you can/have:

  • Good knowledge of global Environmental, Social and Climate risk frameworks and institutions (e.g., TCFD, NGFS, BCBS and SBTi)
  • Strong familiarity with the increasing regulatory expectations facing banks with respect to Climate Risk/ESG matters in EMEA
  • Familiarity with climate risk stress testing or quantification of effects of climate risk on bank exposures/portfolios
  • Broad Risk management background and holistic understanding of the balance sheet
  • Strong knowledge of financial products and AIB’s businesses
  • Experience in strategic planning and project management
  • Experience in dealing with and delivery of regulatory projects
  • Bachelor’s degree; Master’s degree preferred (in sustainability, economics or finance or related subject area)
  • Extensive years Risk experience in a global organization, preferably in ESG or climate related work in the banking industry
  • In-depth knowledge of risk policies, regulatory frameworks, and banking products and services
  • Experienced in partnering with global and/or regional peers to leverage and implement best practices
  • Experience in supervising or coaching junior analysts
  • Demonstrated ability to distil technical concepts and results into intuitive, impactful, and easily digested messages for senior management, auditors, and regulators
  • Excellent English verbal and written communications skills; ability to succinctly present issues and status to managers
  • Proven time management skills, ability to work under pressure, and ability to cope with unpredictable but time sensitive requirements
  • Should have Excellent proficiency in Microsoft Office – particularly Excel (metrics and data analysis), PowerPoint (presentation decks), and Word (writing and editing procedural and technical documentation)
  • Thorough knowledge of credit source systems, collateral reporting systems, and end reporting/warehousing
  • Proficiency in Tableau, Power BI or other BI visualization tools
