Summary of role:

The Risk Function is an independent, second line of defence function that monitors, controls and supports risk-taking activities across AIB.  The purpose of the Risk Function is to provide advice and guidance in relation to risk while providing independent oversight and reporting on AIB’s risk profile.

 

The Risk Function’s main objective is to ensure AIB has a robust risk management framework and culture in place to ensure risks are taken within the risk appetite set by the Board, in support of AIB’s customer franchise and social responsibility.  

The role is positioned within the Compliance and Assurance team where we guide and monitor the Bank's compliance with relevant laws, regulations, statutory obligations and Codes of Conduct. We perform independent reviews and objective assurance on the quality and effectiveness of the Bank’s internal control system, the first line of defence and risk governance policies and frameworks.

 

We’re looking for someone who will:

  • Lead a team responsible for executing all 2LOD Compliance related activities to enable the effective oversight and management of Financial Crime (AML/CFT, Sanctions, ABC and Fraud) risks across the Group. This includes:
    • Development and implementation of a robust Financial Crime business risk assessment process.
    • Collation and provision of independent risk management reporting to senior management and Board.
    • Partnering with Compliance colleagues to design and implement an effective second line of defence assurance testing programme.
    • Providing strategic oversight, check and challenge of all automated Transaction Monitoring (TM), Sanctions screening and Fraud prevention related activity carried out across the Group.
    • Leading and developing Financial Crime intelligence gathering and proactive risk management capabilities based on appropriate M.I. and outputs from core Financial Crime processes.
    • Executing the Financial Crime issue management process and ensuring relevant matters are escalated in timely manner.
    • Identification and escalation of remediation plans, and performing thematic analysis on Financial Crime owned issues and control enhancements.
    • Overseeing the Financial Crime risk managed by any insourced service providers.
    • Leading and/or participating in regulatory examinations.
    • Managing multiple projects across the business and supporting the Group in delivering its strategic change mandate
    • Contributing to the overall strategic direction of Compliance by supporting the Compliance senior management team.
    • Deputising for the Group MLRO at various Boards and internal/external fora.
    • Supporting the MLRO in the management of the Financial Crime Compliance framework on a day-to-day basis

You will need to show us that you can/have:

  • Have proven experience of AML/CFT, Financial Crime and Compliance Risk Management in a Banking environment and associated risks, clear understanding and knowledge of risk management methodologies.
  • Have proven experience in managing relationships with business stakeholders and Regulators
  • At least eight years in a financial services environment, preferably in an AML/CFT, Compliance, Risk or Assurance role with proven experience in leading a team of Compliance professionals.
  • Have a proven understanding and experience of key banking regulations, directives, standards and guidelines and the ability to provide accurate advice, review and challenge.  Relevant qualifications would be advantageous.
  • Proven ability to oversee multiple concurrent projects.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; at ease communicating and presenting to senior management.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Experience with technology and/or financial services companies.
