Summary of role:

The Operational Risk team play a core role in supporting the management of the banks operational risks, working with all areas across AIB. Currently it is a very exciting time in our Operational Risk Team in AIB with opportunities for further career development and growth. The team operates across the bank, providing support on Operational Risk management to all areas.

Working in this team requires the candidate to have a strong general business background, with specific skills to support business areas in carrying out their risk management responsibilities by providing second line oversight on risk management policies, guidelines and best practices.

The successful candidate will need to be pragmatic in working to support the 1LoD while being strong in the defence of risk principles.

You will play a role in setting the risk tone and culture across the group. Reporting to the Head Operational Risk Framework, Reporting, ICAAP Model, Fraud, People & Third Party Management Risk you will play a significant role in Policy setting, advice and oversight and challenge across all areas for Operational Risk.


We're looking for someone who can:

  • Develop and monitor the implementation of second line Frameworks in relation to Operational Risk and People and Culture.
  • Provide Oversight, management and reporting on the RAS metrics for both Operational Risk and People and Culture Risk.
  • Support the team to ensure that the overall Risk and Group Operational Risk priorities are delivered in accordance with Risk Appetite.
  • Maintain highly effective and influential relationships, to ensure that the Operational Risk environment and Risk Culture for the group is improving.
  • Provide second line oversight on Fraud Risk and People and Culture risk matters including drafting 2LOD papers and stakeholder management.
  • Develop and maintain expert knowledge of key business portfolios and emerging trends/risks developing in the financial services industry. Through industry groups influence the development of regulatory requirements for operational risk.
  • Provide insight into and create resolutions and / or policies to existing and emerging risks.
  • Develop and deliver regular reports on the Fraud Risk, People and Culture Risk and broader Operational risk profile to internal and external stakeholders
  • Coordinate the internal review and assessment of regulatory requirements of relevance to Fraud Risk & People and Culture operational risk areas.
  • Review regulatory returns prior to onward transmission to the Central Bank of Ireland

You will need to show us that you can/have:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in financial services, including c.3 years in a control function, risk function or internal audit and a 3rd level qualification or equivalent.
  • Strong communication and people engagement skills and ability to develop and manage internal and external stakeholder relationships
  • Knowledge of Operational Risk frameworks , Risk Appetite & experience of Risk Policy development
  • Awareness and understanding of relevant regulatory Operational Risk requirements with particular emphasis and direct experience of Fraud Risk & People and Culture Risk.
  • Proven experience interacting with and delivering on Regulatory requirements
  • Proven report writing capabilities and experience of analysing data
