Summary of role:

Reporting into the Head of the Sanctions Advisory Team within Financial Crime the role will include investigating and making decisions on potential Financial and Economic Sanctions Regulatory breaches.  Financial Crime is part of Compliance in the Bank’s Second Line of Defence.


As well as a knowledge of Financial Sanctions this role requires extensive banking knowledge, leadership and change management experience, the ability to exercise sound judgement, prioritisation and analytical skills.


The ideal candidate will have strong analytical skills, the ability to collaborate with others and to manage change.                             


What you’ll do

  • Manage members of the Sanctions Advisory Team including the management of all HR related tasks (e.g. PR reviews, Objective setting, agreeing development plans) to support the drive for high performance within the team
  • Prepare, implement and manage internal processes and procedures. Undertake Quality Assurance reviews and act as mentor to junior team members.
  • Investigate potential sanctions match cases referred from 1st line business areas and make decisions in relation to whether it is appropriate for a case to be reported to the regulatory authorities, oversee the report preparation.
  • Ensure the investigation of cases is fully documented, including supporting data, analysis and rationale for outcome within the case management system in a timely manner.
  • Provide Sanctions advisory support to business areas as required.
  • Foster and maintain effective working relationships with business areas, particularly those with high exposure to Sanctions Risk.
  • Proactively keep aware of developments in the Sanctions arena both within the industry and externally.
  • Participate in change/projects as required

What you’ll need 

  1. Knowledgeable on the laws applicable to Financial/Economic Sanctions in relation to EU, UN, US (OFAC) and UK.
  2. Excellent systems acumen as the role requires investigating customer and transaction details via multiple systems, including Clientview, NBP, Storqm, Sharepoint, CGI Hotscan and NetReveal.
  3. Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  4. Experience in managing change.
  5. Experience in a business management role with Regulatory/Sanctions experience would be an advantage.


A relevant qualification and/or professional membership (e.g. ACOI, ACAMs) would be an advantage but not obligatory.
