Summary of the Department

The Risk Analytics Department is a central function within AIB with the remit to develop strong credit risk measurement and decision-support throughout every aspect of our businesses and control functions. The outputs from Risk Analytics deliver optimal pricing for our customers, quick and convenient decisions, a safe lending and borrowing environment, and efficient use of our shareholders’ capital with sustainable returns.

As an advanced analytics team, we are passionate about driving insight and value from data. The team works across a spectrum of activities including data mining, visual analytics, time series modelling, regression modelling, machine learning, and pattern recognition.   1. IFRS9 Model Development is accountable for the design and delivery of IFRS9 credit risk measurement models with the development of PD, LGD, EAD and Prepayment models being a key delivery focus. These models are used within AIB Group to support the determination of the appropriate credit provisions, support decisions on the interest rates which we charge our borrowers and compute the Group’s P&L providing returns to our shareholders

 

  1. Risk Modelling & Strategies is accountable for the design and delivery of credit models which are used within AIB Group to support strategic decision making and the determination of the capital requirements. This function is divided into 3 teams:
    • IRB Model Development is responsible for delivering models which accurately measure risk, maximise appropriateness for business use, and conform to regulatory requirements. These models support the credit management process and drive the Bank’s capital requirements.
    • Stress Testing & Economic Capital is responsible for development and maintenance of forecasting models used for stress testing the Bank’s credit risks to anticipate the effects that macroeconomic shocks may have on our businesses and business model and to support the allocation of regulatory and economic capital.
    • Credit Strategies develop and maintain scorecard models used for the automation of credit-related decisions.  The team uses our risk measurement technology to automate lending decisions in alignment with our risk appetite. This impacts directly upon our customers and their ongoing experience of AIB.

 

  1. Risk Performance & Insights is accountable for supporting the Risk Analytics Department through the provision of analytical support, data insights, and engagement with the wider Business. This is divided into 3 teams:
  • Risk Data is accountable for all data quality, governance and lineage in support of risk analytical activity within AIB. The Risk Data team has responsibility for all risk aggregated data consumed across the AIB Group and supports data, regulatory reporting and MI across the Group Risk function spanning credit, financial and operational risks.
  • Business Intelligence is responsible for tracking and evaluating the performance of risks against metrics and KPIs, and developing outputs that provides insight against strategic goals.
  • Integration is responsible coordinating Risk Analytics activities, managing stakeholders, and building relationship across Risk and the wider AIB group.

Risk Analytics is seeking an ambitious candidate for a senior managerial role in its IRB Model Development Team. This opportunity will suit experienced risk modelling and data analytical professionals. The successful candidate will join as a senior member of Risk Analytics with the responsibility for leading a large team and the opportunity to grow and develop your skills within a fast paced, exciting, data-rich environment.

 

Your next challenge

  • Leading a team of managers and analysts who are responsible for the delivery of various model development and analytical activities, including goal and objective setting for team members as well as performance appraisal
  • Driving innovative approaches to model development or quantitative analytics within the department leveraging from detailed knowledge and experience gained in previous roles
  • Responsibility for stakeholder engagement within the Bank to provide expert advice or to work directly with areas such as Risk, Finance, Business or Internal Audit and external to the Bank to interact with the CBI, ECB, EBA, BPFI in relation to specific model developments or evolving technical standards, requirements and practices
  • Accountability for the scoping, planning and delivery of programmes of work as part of the IRB Model Development schedule to ensure timely deliveries
  • Taking ownership of training, mentoring and upskilling of team members regarding technical, statistical, mathematical and quantitative techniques
  • Ownership of the recruitment process for both internal and external candidates
  • Responsibility for managing and directing any external consultants working alongside the teams

Does this sound like something that you want to be part of?

 

You will need to show us that you can/have:

  1. 8-10 years’ experience in a model development or model validation or data science related role. Examples include: IRB; IFRS 9; loss forecasting; stress testing or economic capital modelling; or a combination thereof;
  2. A bachelor’s degree in a quantitative analytical discipline (1 or higher), e.g. mathematics, applied mathematics, physics, statistics, engineering, econometrics, data science.  (Confirmation will be sought if successful for the role.);
  3. Curiosity and inventiveness;
  4. Technical knowledge might include: logistic regression, time-series analysis and/or other prediction techniques, data extraction and manipulation such as SQL, SAS or Teradata and/or experience of statistical analysis packages such as SAS, R or SPSS;
  5. Good problem solving skills with capability to defend their decisions from challenge both on a technical and business front;
  6. Reasonable knowledge of European regulatory and/or accounting standards in respect of at least one of IRB, IFRS 9
  7. Significant management and leadership experience;

Please note: The Minimum Education requirements for entry to AIB is 5 passes in the Leaving Certificate (or equivalent), to include a pass in English and Maths. These must be achieved at either Ordinary or Honours Level. Confirmation of this will be sought if successful for the role.
