Summary of role:

  • The Specialised Lending team is part of Investment Banking, a key business unit within AIB's Corporate, Institutional & Business Division, with responsibility for the Bank’s origination and monitoring of subordinated lending to corporates and SMEs active in the Irish and UK market. 
  • Applications are now invited for an Associate level 3 to join the team, reporting to the Head of Specialised Lending. 
  • The holder of this role will have experience of lending to different sectors, directing team members in building financial models, preparing credit papers, market and sector research and monitoring a loan book on an on-going basis. 
  • The role will also include representing AIB at external market events, and supporting senior management in achieving business plan and implementing strategic initiatives.


Key accountabilities / responsibilities of the role:

  • Execute new business opportunities for the Specialised Lending team, undertake fundamental credit analysis of each transaction, and play an integral role in bringing these transactions through the AIB credit approval process, with support from other team members. Manage transactions from origination to funding.
  • Take responsibility for the on-going Credit Risk Management of a portfolio of cases within the portfolio ensuring any negative trends are promptly identified, escalated and investigated, and a strategy recommended for resolution. Strong knowledge of macro environment, industry and regulatory trends, and how these impact current and future performance of the portfolio.
  • Demonstrate full understanding of procedures / policies / regulatory requirements. Reinforce their application without exception.
  • Identify, lead and co-ordinate non-portfolio related tasks to the benefit of the overall Specialised Lending and Investment Banking team. Work collaboratively with colleagues across Investment Banking , Capital Markets  and the wider Bank, and participate in internal working groups, committees and forums, as required
  • Represent the unit at relevant industry events, taking opportunities to undertake meetings with market participants and develop and enhance relationships with key external stakeholders.
  • Coach and mentor analysts across the team, supporting them in both achieving their personal goals and contributing to the overall success of the team.

Does this sound like something that you want to be part of?


You will need to show us that you can/have:

  • 3+ years of experience in financial / credit analysis, with experience in corporate lending, project finance or property lending a pre-requisite and experience in financial modelling an advantage
  • Strong portfolio management experience, taking responsibility for all aspects of credit risk management, adherence to AIB policies and procedures, ensuring strong governance and compliance across portfolio assets.
  • High level of commercial awareness and a good understanding of macroeconomic environment and industry trends.
  • Strong interpersonal & negotiation skills and an ability to foster and manage relationships across internal and external stakeholders
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, and an ability to articulate complex concepts / transactions in simple language to stakeholders around the bank
