Summary of role:

In Retail SME, our purpose is to be the trusted partner that backs our Customers, enabling and empowering the Businesses in our Community to prosper. The Galway/Mayo Business team is a dynamic team that works together to drive business in the community. A vacancy exists for a Business Advisor on the team. The role holder will pro-actively manage and develop a portfolio of customers across a number of industries, providing the highest standards of customer service and delivering on agreed business performance. The role holder will have flexibility in how they manage their portfolio, interact with the team and drive business in the community.


We’re looking for someone who can:

  • Managing the business performance of the portfolio under all KPI’s, activities and behaviours.
  • Deliver on business objectives including SME & F&L loans, and CFP.  Ensure cross sell of related products suitable for the SME sector such as; Home Loan referrals, Treasury & Invoice Discounting. 
  • Proactive identification of potential customers and maintenance of a pipeline of leads and opportunities.
  • Cultivates and maintains business relationships, partnerships and alliances internally, externally and virtually with key stakeholders to develop and grow our business.
  • Build partnerships and work collaboratively with the Centre of Excellence Team to meet shared objectives.
  • Complete all New Money application activities for transactions above a specified threshold in accordance with credit/risk standards.
  • Understands the risk factors of providing a particular product for an existing or potential customer in a timely and accurate manner.  
  • Management of the portfolio from a credit and risk perspective, ensuring that adherence to AIB policies, procedures, SME regulations and codes of best practice are appropriately monitored.
  • Builds effective relationships with internal stakeholders across the bank and particularly with colleagues in Local Markets to grow AIB’s SME business.
  • Ensure that there is collaborative and meaningful engagement with your colleagues in the Community Pillar to meet shared objectives.
  • Manage the servicing requirements of customers on portfolio, directing customers to the most appropriate channel to fulfil their needs.

You will need to show us that you can/have:


  1. A minimum of 2 years Business lending experience, strong credit skills, a broad sectoral understanding and an awareness of local competitor activity.
  2. A self-starter with strong customer relationship management experience to include business development, commercial negotiation & risk/portfolio management. 
  3. Proven track record of managing and delivering stretching targets including new business acquisition.    
  4. Minimum requirement of APA Loans and APA Savings & Investments. QFA preferable.
